The membership of the Illinois Surgical Society consists of a blend of academic and nonacademic surgeons from throughout the state of Illinois. The members meet twice a year for educational programs through which CME can be obtained.
The spring meeting is unique in using the “wet clinic” concept. This is a great opportunity to watch surgeons at academic medical centers in Chicago perform operations and field questions from the members. The host institution provides an afternoon of lectures by surgical faculty. Each year the highlight of the afternoon is a lecture by an invited guest speaker. The academic centers in Chicago rotate as the host institution. Members and their spouses enjoy a formal dinner the evening prior to the wet clinics.
The fall meetings are held at different venues around the state. Every third or fourth year the fall meeting is held out of state. The members participate in two educational sessions with papers presented by the members and, when available, local academic faculty. Social functions, time for golf and extracurricular activities are enjoyed by the members and their spouses.
